A female individual previously residing at a women’s sobriety home in the state of California reportedly took a stolen van and led a prolonged law enforcement pursuit ending with her crossing the international boundary into the nation of Mexico on Monday.

Vehicle Theft Reported from Sober Living Home

According to a police statement, a another female, the owner of the vehicle, 45, notified authorities that her 2004 gray Toyota Sienna was stolen, along with her car key. The owner, who manages two women’s sober living homes, identified the suspect as Alyssa Wilson at Diana’s House Sober Living, situated approximately an hour’s drive of LA.

“The keys were taken from my house manager’s purse. I arrived just as it was happening,” she said, adding that the minivan is designated for the facility’s daily operations.

High-Speed Pursuit Unfolds Across Several Regions

Officials tracked the stolen vehicle about 12 miles north in a nearby city, where they tried to pull the vehicle over, but the suspect refused to stop and accelerated rapidly. She reached speeds of about 90mph on the State Route 118 until the pursuit proceeded into Los Angeles county. At that point, local sheriff’s deputies transferred the operation to the CHP once the driver entered the Interstate 405 traveling southbound.

“This one is particularly unusual in the context of the road situation allowing drivers to persist on the freeway and prolong this chase,” said a public information officer from the Ventura county sheriff’s office.

Wilson reportedly avoided all the tire-deflation devices deployed on the road by authorities, as seen in aerial videos.

Cross-Border Escape and Aftermath

The pursuit finally arrived at the US-Mexico border by 1.30pm, leading to the CHP to terminate the chase due to legal limitations.

Walters stated on Tuesday that the minivan was situated in the Mexican city of Tijuana and that she was working with the authorities to retrieve it.

“At the end of the day, I’m not worried about the vehicle,” she said. “I’m relieved aware she wasn’t hurt. The car is easily substituted.”

The sober living home owner, who has operated Diana’s House Sober Living since last October, recognizes that the path to recovery from substance abuse and emotional distress is not always linear.

“This is a mental health and addiction crisis,” she said. “There is a need for additional assistance. We need more resources for those that are struggling.”

“The recovery process can be messy,” she added.
